Narwal Freo X Ultra

The Freo X Ultra, a highly-rated and highly-functional Gen 4 robotic vacuum and mop is a well-built machine. The price of $1,400 is difficult to swallow, but you can find it on sale often enough to make it more acceptable. The unit is beautiful, and the base station occupies very little space in the corner of the room.

The design of this robot is able to address some of the issues we have encountered with other robotic mop and vacuum units, like the brushes becoming entangled in hair, and the brush not being able to reach floors that are not covered by furniture. The sweeping performance on carpets and floors that are not covered is also impressive. The vacuum/mop unit has an excellent level of debris pickup, and the mop can absorb the bare floor quickly.

The mops also employ a smart system to clean around the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot avoids most bulkier obstacles like food bowls, toys, shoes, and backpacks without any difficulty. It could get caught or get stuck with smaller, more compact objects like shoelaces and USB cables and pen.

This robot was used to vacuum and mop hardwood flooring, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in an open-plan home. With FREO Mind enabled, it cleaned and mopped the 90m2 area in about 170 minutes which is about average for Gen 4.

The robot is distinguished by a variety of characteristics. The Freo X Ultra has a array of sensors, software, and hardware improvements engineered to keep it at the top of its class. It claims 3.5 hours of autonomy for areas up to 260m2.

Freo's application lets you customize multiple functions, including how often the robot returns back to the base station. You can also alter the frequency of mopping, the power level (silent or smart), or the mopping humidity. The app is able to detect dirty spots and create an effective cleaning route. It can also dispense detergent and raise the carpet pads.

Other notable features include a quick charging battery, a simple-to-read display on the robot's bottom, and a convenient dock door that is easy to open. The Freo X Ultra vacuum and mop is ideal for home and apartment owners who want to simplify their chores and keep their home clean.

Miele Scout RX3

Miele is a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the world of robotic vacuuming. The new Miele robot is designed to take that to the next level by incorporating high-end features and superior cleaning performance.

The RX3 comes with dual suction, intelligent navigation with 3D mapping and a camera which sends live images to your smartphone for simple control. The RX3's powerful four-stage system for cleaning offers excellent dust pickup on carpet and hard floors, while intuitive swing-out side brushes and dual suction channels clean in corners. The 8.5 cm height means it can get under low furniture, while front cameras and infrared sensors help it navigate obstacles and thresholds with ease.

The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test of how well it was able to clean baking powder around baseboards and corners. Its suction was less powerful than the other robots, however it was still silent and moved swiftly. It didn't mop and its clean pad was a challenge to attach. It also couldn't handle dried-on dirt.

Its app is on the basic side and lacks features such as multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It does support Alexa however its voice controls aren't particularly intuitive or responsive. And it's also a little flaky when it comes to getting back to the charging station following running other robots are able to follow a previous route or follow a wall until they get to their home however the RX3 just bumbles about until it quits and then sends a message about failure to your phone.

We also encountered issues with the smart features of the device, including its mapping feature and digital stay-out zones. It was great at keeping our shoes and furniture legs away, but it was easily caught on socks, cables, and carpets. We didn't include the Scout RX3 on our Best Buy list. However, with a reasonable price and a dazzling performance, the Scout RX3 is worth considering in the event you're looking to find a smarter alternative to traditional uprights.
